Music
Reyers was born to the beat of a drum following the 1996 Amsterdam Veterans Day parade, and has been in love with music ever since. A native of Upstate New York, Reyers is currently a fourth year student in the University of Kentucky Ethnomusicology/Musicology PhD program where he also teaches Intro to Music & Jazz History courses. Reyers’ dissertation Cantate Fratres: Musical and Liturgical Formation in Latin Mass Communities, is focused on the advocacy and understanding of apostolates shepherded by the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest (ICKSP), and how they can serve as models for other Latin Mass communities as well as diocesan parishes throughout the world.
In addition to his doctoral studies, Reyers also serves as the Music Director for St. Joseph Parish in Winchester, and as a volunteer reader and cantor for St. Andrew’s Orthodox Church in Lexington and a variety of Eastern Catholic Churches in New York and Pennsylvania.
Prior to his studies in Kentucky, Reyers graduated with a bachelor’s in Music Performance from Roberts Wesleyan University with a focus on Piano (solo and collaborative) Organ, Saxophone, Jazz, Conducting and Composition. He earned a master’s degree in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Southern Maine’s Osher School of Music, and served as a graduate TA working as an accompanist for the school’s vocal program, and as an instructor in class piano during the COVID 19 pandemic.
Outside of academia Reyers runs a prayer ministry, the Sts. John Vianney & John Neumann Prayer Apostolate for Priests, with his fiancee Katie O’Brien. Reyers and Katie also support local pro-life programs including Sidewalk Advocates for Life through volunteer work in Pittsburgh.
Reyers is an Eagle Scout (class of ’13), and volunteers with his troop, Troop 501, Esperance, NY when home on school breaks. He is an avid lover of nature and the outdoors, and loves to go hiking and exploring.
